FAQ

HOW TO CARE FOR YOUR FUR

Fur is fairly durable, but there are things that you should know in order to properly care for fur products properly.

Furs prefer cool temperatures, and hate heat. They don’t like friction, or chemicals. They like space, and to be cleaned – but, only by a fur professional.

Be sure to store your fur in a closet that is not exposed to light or heat. Light will cause the color of your fur to fade, heat can cause a fur to dry out. Make sure it has room to breathe and is not crushed by other garments.

Avoid insecticides, moth-proofing, and other chemicals around on your fur; this includes perfume, hairspray and makeup. Perfume contains alcohol, which can dry a fur pelt. Once a perfume gets into your fur (including cedar from a cedar chest) it can be there to stay.

If your fur gets wet, don’t panic. Most furs can handle snow and a light rain with ease. Shake it out and hang it to dry in a well ventilated room. Please resist the temptation to speed the drying process with a hairdryer or any heat sources. Remember that furs don’t like heat. After it dries you can then shake it again. Comb or brush it gently if the hairs seem a little bristly. If your fur has been soaked thru, however, take it immediately to a furrier for proper treatment.

In the off season it doesn’t hurt to send your fur to your local furrier for professional storage. This is optional but will ensure your fur stays in good condition through the warm months.

If your fur gets dirty, have it cleaned by a professional fur cleaner. Besides just cleaning, a professional fur cleaner will condition your fur. Glazing is a process that replenishes oils to maintain a furs longevity. You may consider taking your fur article to a furrier for glazing if you find that it needs to be refreshed.

GENUINE FUR VS FAUX FUR

Real fur is very soft and smooth whereas faux fur is a bit course and can feel different or rough in  humid conditions.

Genuine fur is the warmest insulator available and is breathable. Fur has been keeping humans warm since the first recordings of mankind. Faux fur is not comparable when it comes to warmth.

Genuine is a natural resource and only a portion of what is produced by nature without depleting the resource or damaging the natural habitats that sustains them.  Plants and animals  generally produce more than the land can support to maturity.

Faux fur is produced from non-renewable resources and generally made from petroleum.  The production and disposal of  these chemicals can cause environmental problems.
